In response to an increase in the number of children living in poverty in South Bay, the Chula Community Collaborative called on its partners to develop an initiative to address the trend. The South County Poverty Task Force begun in November 2014. The focus of the SCPTF is to reduce the number of children living in poverty in South Bay.

The SCPTF sees to increase awareness of poverty among the public, stakeholders, and policy makers; and to increase available resources for families and residents; and increase collaboration among key providers.
