In order to address the growing concern for homelessness and the lack of housing resources, in 2002, the Chula Vista Community Collaborative created the SBHAC. This group meets monthly to discuss problems and solutions to the issues of housing and homelessness in Chula Vista.

The mission of the SBHAC is “To strengthen the coalition of people and organizations to increase awareness on the needs of the homeless, to enhance resources within the community and to advocate on a political level for solutions.” The Coalition exists to: 1) Increase AWARENESS of the homeless issue in Chula Vista and South Bay; 2) Identify current RESOURCES and gaps in resource needs; and 3) Serve as a CLEARING HOUSE of services for the homeless.

The SBHAC collaborates with the Regional Taskforce on the Homeless for an accurate count of homeless in South Bay. The Coalition also bring Agencies together for planning and brainstorming on homeless issues and present annually to the Chula Vista City Council to ensure the homeless issue is recognized at all levels.
